Anyone can have hearing loss. Some common reasons for hearing loss include aging, injury to the ear, exposure to loud noise, genetics, fluid in the ears, and exposure to toxic medications. In some cases, hearing loss can be corrected medically. However, hearing loss is most commonly noticed as we age. In most cases, hearing loss can be treated with a hearing aid or some assistive listening device. Hearing aids and other assistive listening devices allow those with hearing loss to regain most of the lost hearing, communicate better with family members and friends, and enjoy a better quality of living.
